Butterfingers

Review by Lyndee:
Homemade Butterfinger bars are a popular pin on Pinterest so I gave them a try.  They sounded easy enough!

16 ounces candy corn
16 ounces peanut butter
16 ounces Chocolate candy covering or almond bark

The recipe said to melt the candy corn for 1 minute and then stir. Continuing heating and stirring every 15 seconds until melted.

Just for the record, they don’t melt very smoothly.  And they instantly start getting hard and chunky.  Make sure to scrap the bottom of the bowl as you are melting these are you will invent a new type of rock.  It was getting harder and harder to stir so I quickly added the peanut butter.  My spoon bent in half and I had a hand cramp.  What the heck?  Everyone made it sound so easy.

Eventually, I got a new spoon, blocked out the hand cramp and finished mixing it.  I poured it into an 8x8 pan that was lined with parchment paper.

Unfortunately I started this project at 8 o’clock in the evening, not realizing how long it takes these bad boys to set.  After an hour they were still not hard so I put them in the fridge.  Finally after another hour they were set.  But at this point, it was 10 pm and I needed to go to bed.  There was no way I was going to cut out numerous bite size bars and dip them in chocolate almond bark, one by one.  We all know from previous experiments that chocolate almond bark and I don’t always get along.  So I did what any lazy and tired person would do, I melted my almond bark and poured it over the top of the butterfingers mixture and threw it in the fridge.  Rather than individual candy bars, people could chunk off what they wanted from the pan.  It all tastes the same once it gets in your mouth, I figure.

I took these home for the family to try and they were definitely a hit! My nephews devoured them. The entire family liked it and thought they would taste great on some ice cream too.  Check out part of their reviews below.

  1. You had me laughing hard at this! Although, I can't say I had nearly as many problems, I could basically relate to all said. I did immediately put mine id fridge/maybe freezer after in pan so I was able to cut them after an hour or so. I did melted chocolate chips and just dunked the tops of the bars in. Thanks for all your fun posts!
